Sue proctor hostas header

From classic hostas to new introductions, from miniature hostas to giants, our hosta collection has something for everyone.

Our Nursery in West Yorkshire is devoted to Hostas and in our Website you will find something to appeal to everyone, from the hosta beginner to the serious collector.

Our Catalogue lists over 300 hosta varieties, including old favourites, classics and an exciting range of the very newest varieties, some available only from ourselves.

We particularly specialise in miniature and very small hostas, offering around 150 varieties and cultivars, some rare and hard to find.

To simplify ordering, our hostas are all listed again on our Order Page.

Most varieties listed are accompanied by a photograph to make choosing easy.

We sell through Shows, by mail order and, by arrangement, to personal visitors to our Nursery.

Our ‘Bits and Pieces’ page contains occasional articles and anything else we think you might like to see. You can comment or add to these through the Page.

Thank you for visiting our Website. Enjoy your hostas!!

News & Shows

Our 2016 season has now ended and what an unusual season it was! An injury to Richard’s knee while getting ready for Harrogate Spring Show meant we were unable to exhibit our hostas at any Shows at all. At short notice we arranged a Nursery Open Weekend towards the end of July which attracted over 70 people and raised £150.00 in refreshment donations for the NSPCC.

The extra time we had not getting ready for, and attending, Shows was well spent. Our mail orders increased and we enjoyed visits from Show-deprived customers, some coming as far as 150 miles to see us. Many, many thanks to you all. We also spent time growing hostas from the previous year’s seed and later in the season, we began hybridising. For two months our house was full of hostas in flower as we protected them from the attentions of bees and cross-pollinated by hand. Our open-pollinated seedlings sown in January, have already produced some unexpected and exciting results.

For the first time since we started exhibiting Hostas at Shows nearly ten years ago, we have decided not to apply for any Shows this coming Season. We are sorry we have had to take this decision, not least because we will miss so many of the lovely customers we have got to know over the years.

However, for all sorts of reasons, Richard’s other dodgy knee amongst them, we have decided it is time for a change of emphasis in our business. From now on we will focus on our mail orders, aiming for a quick turn-around, and on welcoming visitors to our Nursery and Garden. We are in the NGS Yellow Book for 2017 (15-16 July 11am-4pm) and, of course, Hosta addicts who would like to visit us at another time will be made very welcome. Just give us a ring to make sure we are in.
When not packing mail-orders, chatting to visitors or looking after our garden, we will be tending our baby hosta seedlings and, hopefully, identifying and growing on those different enough to offer to our customers as new varieties in a few years’ time.

One benefit of these changes is that we will be able to reduce the Catalogue prices of some of our varieties, including miniatures, and visitors will always get a discount.

Provisional news of varieties new to our 2017 Catalogue coming soon.
